PERMANENT MAGNETIC PULLEY
Permanent Magnet drum pulley replaces the drive pulley at the end of conveyor belts. We have many different types the drum pulley for installation and is delivered made to measure. The iron particles are removed from the material flow by the magnetic head roller, as shown in the figure, and are then removed and collected from the underside of the belt.
A magnetic pulley is a type of magnetic separator that is used to remove ferrous metal contaminants from a material flow. It consists of a drum-shaped magnetic core that is placed at the end of a conveyor belt. As the material flow moves past the magnetic pulley, the magnetic field generated by the pulley attracts any ferrous metal contaminants and separates them from the rest of the material flow.
The Gauss power of a magnetic pulley depends on a variety of factors, such as the size and shape of the magnetic core, the number of magnetic poles on the core, and the distance between the magnetic core and the material flow. Generally, the Gauss power of a magnetic pulley ranges from 800 to 4500 Gauss.
Industrial Magnetic System and Services (IMSS) offers permanent magnetic pulleys that are ideal for use as head pulleys in belt conveyors. These pulleys provide superior removal of ferrous contamination such as nails, spikes, nuts, bolts, cans, and wire from material conveyor with maintenance-free operation. A magnet is a low-cost way to remove unwanted ferrous metal from your waste stream, regardless of the application. With proper care, these pulleys require very little maintenance and can last for years. IMSS is a leading Magnetic Pulley Manufacturer in India.
Applications:
IMSS magnetic pulleys are suitable for a variety of applications, including:
- Waste stream
- Feed and Grain
- Mining
- Recycling Applications
- Cement
- Coal Handling Plant
- Salt processing industries
- Glass
- Paper
- Refractory
- Minerals (e.g. Bauxite)
How Does it Work?
The magnetic field of the pulley attracts the ferrous fines, which are held to the belt until it reaches the underside. The separated ferrous materials pass out of the magnetic field and are collected separately into a chute or bin. The cleaned material is discharged normally over the pulley in a vertical drop.
Features of IMSS Magnetic Pulleys:
IMSS magnetic pulleys have the following features:

- Customized designs are also available
General Specifications:
IMSS magnetic pulleys have the following specifications:
- Flux density: 4500 ± 200 gauss
- Attraction Distance: Up to 300mm / 12 inches
- Maximum operating temperature: 80ᵒC
- Best grade St. Ferrite/Rear Earth magnets are used for construction
- Outer face and endplates of the magnetic pulley are made of stainless steel
- Removes contaminants like nuts, bolts, wire, tools, etc.
- Protects equipment and product from the hazards of tramp iron
Customized Pulley Designs:
IMSS also makes custom-designed magnetic pulleys to precisely fit customer’s applications. To make a custom-designed pulley, IMSS requires the following information:
- Type of material
- Conveyor belt width
- Belt speed
- Size and concentration of the contamination
- Burden depth
- Construction
Installation:
Installation of IMSS magnetic pulleys is often very simple. Four bolts on a set of pillow block bearings normally hold the pulley in place. Loosen the conveyor belt, remove the old pulley, and install the magnetized pulley. This type of installation does not require electricity.
Buying Tips:
Before purchasing a magnetic pulley from IMSS, buyers should keep in mind the following considerations:
- The width of the pulley must match the width of the equipment
- The diameter of the pulley and shaft must match the diameter of the equipment
- The pulley selected must fit into the conveyor system
Handling and Person with Pacemaker:
IMSS advises that the handling of magnetic pulleys must be done with care. People with pacemakers should not come in contact with these pulleys. If in doubt, consult with a medical professional before handling them.
Precautions to be taken while handling:
IMSS advises that when handling magnetic pulleys, care should be taken to avoid impact, vibration, and dropping. The pulleys should be handled gently and with caution to avoid damage to the magnet. IMSS
